THE BOOK OF REVELATION PART 22

22 Then he showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 There shall no more be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall worship him; 4 they shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads. 5 And night shall be no more; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they shall reign for ever and ever.
 
6 And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place. 7 And behold, I am coming soon.”
 
Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.
 
As I mentioned before, Michael Barber's book about this prophetic work is called Coming Soon.
 
The theme is appropriate. John is writing to tell his audience to expect these things soon. The theme is repeated.
 
 
 
Revelation 1:1 
 
The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must soon take place; and he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

It is the same imminence shown in the Gospels. How can you deny a message given 8 times in these 22 chapters? In verse 10, it says "The time is near" which is another way of saying the same thing.
 
 
 
This book deals very little with the far-off things of Jesus return at judgement but deals, rather, with His vengeance against Jerusalem and it's replacement with the Catholic church.
 
 
 
Anti-Catholics falsely accuse the catholic church of violating the precepts outlined in verses 18 and 19 by ''adding to" or "subtracting from" this book. I ask you to consider this. What are you doing by futurizing this book after being told NINE TIMES of the imminence of the warnings and the promises contained within?
 
 
 
The church baptized by the river of life (v1), healed by the fruit of the tree of life, worshipping God, with His indelible mark on our foreheads. We keep the words of the Book by obedience to the church it heralds.
 
 
 
8 I John am he who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me; 9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
 
10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
 
12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense, to repay every one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
 
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and every one who loves and practices falsehood.
 
16 “I Jesus have sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.”
 
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let him who hears say, “Come.” And let him who is thirsty come, let him who desires take the water of life without price.
 
18 I warn every one who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if any one adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if any one takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
 
20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
 
21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.

THE BOOK OF REVELATION PART 21

It is wonderful that we have a church that can give us insights into the spiritual things that do not so quickly reach the eye. Venerable Maria of Agreda's nearly 2,800 page work The Mystical City of God is just such a work. I consider it almost essential to understanding the 21st chapter of the Book of Revelation and I am so glad I read it.
 
 
 
 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; 3 and I heard a great voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them;
 
 
 
These few verses are very confusing and hard to digest and it is necessary to understand the symbolism and work through it slowly.
 
 
 
A new heaven and a new earth, the old heaven and earth and sea were no more.
 
 
 
If you think in terms of the Jerusalem Temple having been God's dwelling place on earth and differentiate it from Pagan Rome, they are the heaven and earth that are talked about as passing away. In Revelation past chapters, they were talked about as a harlot and a beast or even as 2 different beasts. Here, they are 2 different kingdoms- the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of Earth. The sea represents the multitudes of evil people and nations who followed them to their destruction.
 
 
 
The new Jerusalem, which comes down from heaven is both the new heaven and the new earth. it is the new holy city. It replaces the one which became Sodom and Egypt (11:8)
 
 
 
There is of course only 1 possible candidate - Vatican City.
 
 
 
They are His people, and He is with them as their God.
 
 
 
but someone might object- what about the next verse? This doesn't happen with the Catholic church!
 
 
 
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”
 
 
 
Notice that it says "He will wipe away". Not He has wiped away. It is a promise to those who are faithful of what awaits them later.
 
 
 
We see this clarified as follows, especially in verses 7 and 8.
 
 
 
5 And he who sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water without price from the fountain of the water of life. 7 He who conquers shall have this heritage, and I will be his God and he shall be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
 
 
 
Once again, Salvation is directly tied to action.
 
 
 
9 Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And in the Spirit he carried me away to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed; 13 on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
 
 
 
This is a vision directly contrasting that of Revelation 17. There, we saw a woman who was a harlot that represented the Great city. Now, we see a woman as bride representing The Holy city. The Great city was the one drunk with the blood of prophets and martyrs but the Holy city was built with the gates of the sons of Israel and the foundations of the Apostles. We see this very language referring to the church in Ephesians 2:20.
 
 
 
These verses are talking about the Kingdom of God being handed over to the Catholic church.
 
 
 
This is exactly what Jesus foretold in Matthew 21:43
 
 
 
Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom.
 
The deep mystical reality of how heaven can come down to earth and dwell with man is conveyed in the miracle that God came down here to dwell with us as a man. That mystical city that He dwelled in on earth is none other than the Blessed Virgin Mary. As she is mother of He who is both human and Divine, she is mother of the church that is both human and divine. As such, as we have covered, it is her and her spiritual children who are at war with the devil. Likewise, it is her and the apostles who form the very fortress in that war. They are the foundations upon which it stands and the gates by which we enter. They are synergistic joined to Christ whereby, we stand upon His word when we stand upon theirs, we enter by Him, when we enter by them.
 
 
 
The tendency is to conclude that we Catholics are, once more, putting too much emphasis on the Blessed Virgin Mary but we are not. She is not God, nor is She a Savior. She is not the mediator between God and man, nor could she be. What she is, however, is that pure, human instrument that acts as the key to unlocking this complex mystery.
 
 
 
Jesus is the Sacrifice and the Priest that offers the sacrifice. He is the Temple, and the God who dwells inside it. In the same way, Mary is- at the same time- the Ark that dwells inside the Temple (11:19-12:1) and the mystical city which the temple is located in. On Good Friday, she lost her Son and her God at the same time. She received the Holy Spirit's overshadowing at the conception of Jesus and then at Pentecost. She received Jesus inside her incarnate and then in the Eucharist. She was the handmaiden of the Lord then the queen of angels and saints.
 
 
 
No person in history has ever been entwined with the Trinity as she has-
 
Daughter of the Father.
 
Mother of the Son
 
Spouse of the Holy Spirit.
 
 
 
As intertwined as she is with God, so then is she with the church. As such, it pleased God that her centrality and magnificence with be veiled like she was, to be revealed by the studious work of her children, the true believers in Christ. Seeing is not believing, believing is seeing.
 
 
 
The word Revelation literally means removing the veil and this book's purpose is not to project a timeline of future events. The purpose of the Book of Revelation is literally to remove the veil shrouding the mysteries of God and His church. Mary is the source of many of those mysteries.
 
 
 
The Apostles are the foundation of this mystical city, and it's church because they were brought forth by Jesus. Mary is the Mother of the church as Jesus was brought forth by her. The mystical vision shows that Mary brought Jesus to us in the Incarnation and Nativity and now brings Him to us through the church. Through signs and wonders, such as at Fatima, Lourdes and Guadalupe, she is manifesting Him to us yet again, in preparation for His return at the end of days.
 
 
 
The Mother of God, the sons of Israel and the Apostles are the means by which God rules through this new city and new temple. A fascinating and lengthy detail of this new temple vision exists in Ezekial chapters 40-48. I recommend you read it.

15 And he who talked to me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. 16 The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its breadth; and he measured the city with his rod, twelve thousand stadia; its length and breadth and height are equal. 17 He also measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits by a man’s measure, that is, an angel’s. 18 The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every jewel; the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.
 
 
 
All of these measurements and adornments have great spiritual significance which I will attempt to summarize briefly.
 
 
 
First, the measurements. Three things that are conveyed- vast size, perfect symmetry and pure gold- are what I will deal with first. As Barber points out (page 264), this hearkens back to 1 Kings 6:20 describing the Holy of Holies in the inner sanctuary:
 
 
 
20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high; and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also made an altar of cedar. 21 And Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold, and he drew chains of gold across, in front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold. 22 And he overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.
 
So am I saying that this image is a representation of the Holy of Holies?
 
 
 
No, the opposite is true. The Old Testament is the shadow, this is the fulfillment. Just as we see the purest gold being used within the sanctuary, we see it's use in the Ark of the Covenant which is fulfilled in Mary- the purest gold of all.
 
 
 
In verse 17, we see a confusing and shocking claim:
 
 
 
17 He also measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits by a man’s measure, that is, an angel’s.
 
This seems to convey a theme we have seen over and over where the lines blur between where human roles end and angelic roles begin.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The idea of a city of gold, paved with streets of gold is fascinating enough, but in both references (v18, 21) the gold is said to be as clear and transparent as glass. This is a pretty fascinating paradox when you think about it. The beauty of gold in our world is in the way it shimmers. It's beauty is in the way it reflects the light back to us. Think of the clearest glass in a tall building or an airplane. You can see right through it for miles. On the other hand, a mirror provides a perfect reflection by it's opacity. It reflects the light back, whereas the clearest glass allows it to pass through.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
This gold acts like that mirror, reflecting the light while at the same time being completely transparent. How is this possible?
 
 
 
It's very simple. The light reflects from the inside out, not the outside in. This gold is illumined by it's transparency to the light. Just as a church is filled with dazzling light from the sun passing through the stained glass, the mystical city of God is illumined by the light of God unimpeded by impurities. The Son-light brings to life the city of God passing through that magnifier which God created for that purpose.
 
 
 
Luke 2
 
 
 
46 And Mary said,
 
 
 
“My soul magnifies the Lord,47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,48 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed;49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.50 And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation.51 He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts,52 he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree;53 he has filled the hungry with good things ,and the rich he has sent empty away.54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever.”
 
 
 
The 12 stones each have symbolic meanings which I will not go into here.
 
 
 
22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 By its light shall the nations walk; and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory into it, 25 and its gates shall never be shut by day—and there shall be no night there; 26 they shall bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. 27 But nothing unclean shall enter it, nor any one who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
 
 
 
The city of God on earth is one with the city of God in heaven. The worship is present in both and the former is the gateway to the latter.

THE BOOK OF REVELATION PART 20

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years were ended. After that he must be loosed for a little while.
 
Let's first dispense with the idea that the thousand years must be understood as a literal thousand. Jesus told us that no one would know the times or the seasons and, in the expressive language of the time, a thousand years means an immense period of time.
 
 
 
The dividing line of time is shown here because Christ's thousand-year reign on earth is through His Catholic church. Rather than being a future era, soon to come, it is the current era, soon to end.
 
 
 
The Devil was cast into the bottomless pit as Jesus' church grew and subdued the world. When the church age draws to a close, the devil is released, and the antichrist rises to power. This book actually tells us very little about the antichrist other than that.
 
 
 
The Beast is not the antichrist is neither is the harlot that rides upon it. Are they foreshadowings, more or less? yes. However, this book's drama is dealing with the defeat of apostate Jerusalem and pagan Rome of the 1st century and their replacement with a new thing.
 
 
 
4 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and they shall reign with him a thousand years.
 
This tells us 2 things:
 
Jesus reigns through the Priests of the Catholic church for the thousand years.
That period ends with the defeat of antichrist and the resurrection of the dead, at the last judgement.
 
 
 
We do not see the devil defeated, only to rise up again 1000 years later. When Jesus defeats Him, it's for good.
 
 
 
The puzzling part is about those who came to life to rule with Christ. There were a portion that did at this point and a portion that do not rise until later. What is being signified here? The ones who had been slain for Christ and refused to follow the beast, rose to reign with Him and the rest will rise at the second resurrection at the end of days.
 
 
 
This is the Resurrection of the saints and their participation in the heavenly kingdom. Frankly, you have already seen this multiple times. The 24 elders on thrones are just one example.
 
 
 
This idea of some saints rising at one point and some at another is impossible to square with protestant ideology, but we see it clearly here. Some who have died will reign with Christ, during the thousand years and some will rise at the end of the thousand years.
 
 
 
Over those who rose in this first resurrection, we are told that death has no power.
 
 
 
Why?
 
 
 
It's quite simple. They won. They persevered, they remained faithful. They washed their garments in the blood of the Lamb (chapter 7, verse 14). They merited their crowns by atoning for their sin and carrying their crosses.
 
 
 
What happens to the others?
 
 
 
We go to Matthew 25 to find out.
 
 
 
31 “When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.
 
 
 
34 Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’
 
 
 
37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? 38 And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? 39 And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’
 
 
 
41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.’ 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
 
 
 
So it can be said that death has no power over the first group but the second group must still contend and fight.
 
 
 
Yet, some of these, who do not reign during the thousand years, and who do not rise at the first resurrection are nevertheless bound for eternity in heaven. How can we explain this delay?
 
 
 
Purgatory.
 
 
 
They are saved by the Lamb, through the types of acts described in Matthew 25 but their entrance to heaven is delayed after death. This can only be explained by purgatory.
 
 
 
There are 3 states of the church and they are all shown here:
 
 
 
The church triumphant describes the Church in heaven. In the kingdom of God — the realm in which the holy Trinity, the angels and saints, and the abode of all those who have reached the fullness of salvation in Christ — the Church already exists. But it will have its fullest being at the end of time, when all of creation and (we hope) all human beings will be conformed to Christ and all reality will be one of divine praise and glory.
 
 
 
The term “church triumphant” underlines the truth that in the glory of heaven all human sin will have been transformed, death and suffering will be no more, and the glory of God will have triumphed over all the imperfections of human history.
 
 
 
The church militant refers to the Church on earth. The term “militant” can suggest an antagonistic relationship between the Church and the world. Nevertheless, it refers to an authentic reality: that the Church on earth works to overcome the imperfect and sinful dimensions of human existence.
 
The Church’s mission is not to oppose the world and society, but to work for their transformation by the convincing preaching of the Gospel and by the edifying power of the good works and example of those who are baptized into Christ. The Church’s best asset is the saintly activity and example of those who have chosen the Christian way of life.
 
 
 
The church suffering refers to the church in purgatory. Purgatory is not a kind of temporary hell. It is rather the threshold, the antechamber of heaven. In purgatory, all those — whether Christian or not — who have reached the gates of death without reaching the full perfection of life represented in Christ are cleansed in a kind of ongoing baptism and are purified by the enlightening fire of the Holy Spirit. The suffering of purgatory is not one of destruction, but the suffering that comes from leaving the old self behind and taking on the new.

7 And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be loosed from his prison 8 and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, that is, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. 9 And they marched up over the broad earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city; but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, 10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
 
These are literally the first verses in the entire book of revelation that signal the events in our future about the coming of the antichrist. We are told that he will deceive all the nations, and his followers will be numbered like the sands of the sea.
 
 
 
We are also told that his end will come suddenly and surely from heaven.
 
 
 
Something that you can easily miss is the meaning of ''the saints and their beloved city''. Many is the meme I have seen that twists scripture to identify this beloved city as Jerusalem.
 
 
 
If that's you, I have to wonder if you have been paying attention at all.
 
 
 
Jerusalem is called Sodom and Egypt in chapter 11. In chapter 17, it is called a harlot. In chapter 18, rather than being called the beloved city of the saints, it is called the city that is drunk with their blood.
 
 
 
In the Gospels, we are not told that the surrounded city of Jerusalem will be saved but that it will be desolated!
 
 
 
Luke 21:20 “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it; 22 for these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all that is written. 23 Alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck in those days! For great distress shall be upon the earth and wrath upon this people; 24 they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
 
This is obviously a different city that is the city of saints. This is the city that is saved. Gog and Magog were two biblical figures who lived hundreds of years apart. They are being used here to represent the nations of the whole earth who will one day wage war on the catholic church, under the banner of the antichrist.
 
 
 
 
 
Probably when things look the bleakest of the bleak, God will wipe them out and save His beloved city- Vatican city.
 
 
 
 
 
and here we are shown that the final judgement follows quickly after that.
 
 
 
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; 15 and if any one’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
 
In his book Coming soon, Michael Barber displays a fascinating typology of events that does seem to provide the template for end-times things. It was literally about 1000 years from the rise of the Davidic King (David) until the fall of the apostate Jerusalem. This seems to project forward to the time from the rise of the real Davidic King- Jesus to the fall of the false church that will be built by the antichrist.
 
 
 
There are many private revelations of saints painting a picture of antichrist restoring Jerusalem and reigning terror for 3 1/2 years. Many of those saints point to our own times as when those things come to pass.
 
 
 
I will not speculate on such things here but feel free to research on your own.

THE BOOK OF REVELATION PART 19

In chapters 17 and 18, we saw two images of evil that were connected. We saw the city of Jerusalem, depicted as a great whore and we saw the city of Rome (and it's empire) depicted as a 7 headed beast.
 
 
 
Now, we turn our focus to the entity that replaced them both- the church.
 
 
 
After this I heard what seemed to be the mighty voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying,
 
“Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,2 for his judgments are true and just; he has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”3 Once more they cried, “Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”
 
4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who is seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And from the throne came a voice crying,
 
“Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.”
 
I have read that there are 260 chapters in the New Testament. Out of those 260 chapters, only 1 contains a very special word to Catholic worship.
 
 
 
The word is Alleluia or Hallelujah.
 
 
 
The Word literally means Praise the Lord, Jah, which is a short form of the name of God- Yahweh.
 
 
 
Praise the Lord comes from the Hebrew word Hallel.
 
 
 
This is a throwback to the Psalms. In particular, Psalms 108-110 which are literally known as the Hallel or praise psalms.
 
 
 
Psalm 110 is particularly relevant here
 
 
 
The Lord says to my lord: "Sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool.”
 
2 The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your foes!3 Your people will offer themselves freely on the day you lead your host upon the holy mountains. From the womb of the morning like dew your youth will come to you.4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, "You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchiz′edek.”
 
5 The Lord is at your right hand;  he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.6 He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth.7 He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore, he will lift up his head.
 
 
 
These Psalms were seen as prophesying the restoration of the nation of Israel. This is something many in our modern world are still pointing forward to as a coming event.
 
 
 
John, in Revelation 19, is heralding this moment as having arrived upon the fall of the city of Jerusalem.
 
 
 
How do we know this is the fulfilment? What is the binding tie?
 
 
 
Melchizedek.
 
 
 
Why does the Book of Revelation pick this particular time and place to hearken back to the Haleel psalms? It is because of this particular connection. We have already been told in this book that God is establishing a royal priesthood to reign on earth but Psalm 110- the last of the Haleel psalms tells us the particular order. It is the order of Melchizedek.
 
 
 
Who is Melchizedek? I'm glad you asked.
 
 
 
He is the first priest to appear in the Bible. He appears long before- centuries before- the priesthood of Aaron was even a thought, and he appears quite out of the blue. It's recorded in Genesis chapter 14
 
 
 
17 After his return from the defeat of Ched-or-lao′mer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). 18 And Melchiz′edek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said,
 
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth; 20 and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!”
 
And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
 
 
 
The first thing that strikes you is that Melchizedek shows up out of the blue and is identified as a priest of God. At this point, you could rightly ask What's a priest?
 
 
 
Secondly, he is identified as the King of Salem. Salem would later become Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.
 
 
 
Much later.
 
 
 
Melchizedek is being called a priest about 500 years before the priesthood of Aaron and he is being called a King of (Jeru)salem literally 1000 years before David, the first King.
 
 
 
As if that were not enough, the offering Melchizedek offers- bread and wine- would not be seen for about another 1,000 years when Jesus Himself offered them on Holy Thursday, April 2nd, 33 AD, in the upper room on the last supper.
 
 
 
As we mentioned, we see Melchizedek appeared out of the blue in Genesis 14. However, the 'King of Salem' then vanishes from scripture for a thousand years until he is mentioned in Psalm 110 by the actual first King of Jerusalem, David.
 
 
 
When do we hear about Melchizedek again? Believe it or not, there is no mention of him until the Book of Hebrews, a book written about the same time as the Book of Revelation!
 
 
 
 
 
What is written about Melchizedek is in chapters 6 and 7 and it only adds to the mystery.
 
 
 
6 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever after the order of Melchiz′edek.
 
7  For this Melchiz′edek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him; 2 and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. 3 He is without father or mother or genealogy, and has neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest for ever.
 
4 See how great he is! Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe of the spoils. 5 And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brethren, though these also are descended from Abraham. 6 But this man who has not their genealogy received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7 It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. 8 Here tithes are received by mortal men; there, by one of whom it is testified that he lives. 9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchiz′edek met him.
 
11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levit′ical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchiz′edek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
 
15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchiz′edek, 16 who has become a priest, not according to a legal requirement concerning bodily descent but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him,
 
“Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchiz′edek.”
 
18 On the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect); on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
 
20 And it was not without an oath. 21 Those who formerly became priests took their office without an oath, but this one was addressed with an oath,
 
“The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,‘Thou art a priest for ever.’”
 
22 This makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant.
 
23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues for ever. 25 Consequently he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
 
26 For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. 28 Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever.
 
So, in order to unpack this, we must summarize all that we know about Melchizedek.
 
A priest of God
The King of (Jeru)salem
Worthy of receiving the tithe
brought an offering of bread and wine
No beginning, no end, no genealogy
A priest forever, unlike the priesthood of Aaron.
 
 
 
If you cannot see Jesus, Himself here, you have to at least see the strongest typology imaginable, in this shadowy person called Melchizedek.
 
 
 
What is really powerful and fully catholic is the recognition of the true sacrifice of value in Melchizedek's order. Bread and Wine.
 
 
 
Bread and Wine which become the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in the Catholic Mass.
 
 
 
This is the clear message John gives us right here.
 
 
 
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying,
 
“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;8 it was granted her to be clothed with fine linen, bright and pure”—
 
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
 
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.”
 
and at every Catholic Mass, as the Sacred host is raised, the priest says these words Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
 
 
 
10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
 
There is Our God. Not the Angel announcing or the priest presenting on the altar. Our God, Our Lord, Our King. Fall down on your knees before the Sacred body, elevated by the priest.
 
 
 
Priest: The Body of Christ
 
Us: Amen!
 
 
 
The single most powerful act of worship available to us.
 
 
 
I do not know what a non-Catholic can even do with this. It is so obvious what the marriage supper of the lamb is.
 
 
 
The overpowering part of this mystery is how the harlot and the beast actually- and fully unintentionally- participate in the salvific plan of God. Through their persecution, through their brutality, the martyrs are saved. A brutality the martyrs are able to conquer, because of the sacrifice He bought with His blood. What the devil means for evil, God uses to save us.
 
 
 
If you are not moved by this, you do not have a pulse.
 
 
 
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name inscribed which no one knows but himself. 13 He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name inscribed, King of kings and Lord of lords.
 
Cue up "Onward, Christian soldiers"
 
 
 
The Kingdom of Heaven is established on earth. Israel is reestablished but in a whole new way. The 12 tribes are now the descendants of the 12 apostles. Mary is the New Ark of the Covenant and Jesus is the New Davidic King, The King of Jerusalem, The Priest in the order of Melchizedek. His armies are arrayed for battled, to conquer the world in a new and different way.
 
 
 
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly in midheaven, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18 to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.” 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who sits upon the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with brimstone. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword of him who sits upon the horse, the sword that issues from his mouth; and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
 
God's church overcomes the Beast- Rome- just like it overcame the harlot- Jerusalem. This is not the end of time. This is the infancy of the church age being portrayed here. This is the Roman beast that is conquered here. The antichrist comes later, as you will see. This is the start of God's Kingdom on earth, initiated in 33 AD, now fully implemented with Jerusalem and Rome cast down.

THE BOOK OF REVELATION PART 18

 1 And after these things, I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power: and the earth was enlightened with his glory. 2 And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen; and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every unclean spirit, and the hold of every unclean and hateful bird: 3 Because all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication; and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her; and the merchants of the earth have been made rich by the power of her delicacies.
 
Verses 1 and 2 hearken to Isaiah chapter 21
 
 
 
7 And he saw a chariot with two horsemen, a rider upon an ass, and a rider upon a camel: and he beheld them diligently with much heed. 8 And a lion cried out: I am upon the watchtower of the Lord, standing continually by day: and I am upon my ward, standing whole nights. 9 Behold this man cometh, the rider upon the chariot with two horsemen, and he answered, and said: Babylon is fallen, she is fallen, and all the graven gods thereof are broken unto the ground.
 
 
 
Pretty tough not to see the imagery of the Lion crying out and the rider upon an ass as pointing towards Jesus. As you know, He rode an ass on His entry into Jerusalem. This is very important because it directly links the warning of the fall of Babylon with Jesus. Jesus' warnings about Jerusalem's demise were stark.
 
 
 
In Matthew's Gospel, chapter 24, verses 1 and 2, Jesus predicts the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, exclaiming that not one stone (Lithos meaning little pebble) will be left upon another. In verse 34, He predicts correctly that it will happen within one generation (40 years).
 
 
 
In verses 15-22, He gives His famous warning that those in Judea should flee to the mountains. This dire warning is echoed in Mark's and Luke's Gospels.
 
 
 
Luke 21
 
20 And when you shall see Jerusalem compassed about with an army; then know that the desolation thereof is at hand. 21 Then let those who are in Judea, flee to the mountains; and those who are in the midst thereof, depart out: and those who are in the countries, not enter into it. 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things may be fulfilled, that are written. 23 But woe to them that are with child, and give suck in those days; for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword; and shall be led away captives into all nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles; till the times of the nations be fulfilled. 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea and of the waves; 26 Men withering away for fear, and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world. For the powers of heaven shall be moved;
 
 
 
The imminence of these warnings and their urgency cannot be overstated and John repeats them even more urgently in verses 4-8 of Chapter 18 of Revelation.
 
 
 
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying: Go out from her, my people; that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and the Lord hath remembered her iniquities. 6 Render to her as she also hath rendered to you; and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup wherein she hath mingled, mingle ye double unto her. 7 As much as she hath glorified herself, and lived in delicacies, so much torment and sorrow give ye to her; because she saith in her heart: I sit a queen, and am no widow; and sorrow I shall not see. 8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine, and she shall be burnt with the fire; because God is strong, who shall judge her.
 
These are yet more verses that anticatholics use falsely against us. Once again, every sentence proves the sins are past, the judgement is current, and the wrath is imminent. John is literally conveying the angel's message to get out now! This is not a warning for centuries down the road.
 
 
 
 
 
9 And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and were wanton with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning; 10 they will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,
 
“Alas! alas! thou great city, Thou mighty city, Babylon! In one hour has thy judgment come.”
 
11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo any more, 12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels and pearls, fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet, all kinds of scented wood, all articles of ivory, all articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.
 
14 “The fruit for which thy soul longed has gone from Thee, and all thy dainties and thy splendor are lost to thee, never to be found again!”
 
15 The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,
 
16 “Alas, alas, for the great city that was clothed in fine linen, in purple and scarlet, bedecked with gold, with jewels, and with pearls! 17 In one hour all this wealth has been laid waste.”
 
And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18 and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning,
 
“What city was like the great city?”
 
19 And they threw dust on their heads, as they wept and mourned, crying out,
 
“Alas, alas, for the great citywhere all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth!In one hour she has been laid waste.20 Rejoice over her, O heaven,O saints and apostles and prophets,for God has given judgment for you against her!”
 
Those who have tried to juxtapose the whore of Babylon on the Catholic church apparently missed these verses. Never has Vatican city even approached the riches that were Jerusalem's. The annual tribute paid to King Solomon for example was 666 talents of gold (1 Kings 10:14). The number is not a coincidence. By today's standard, that is just shy of $3 Billion dollars in annual tribute.
 
 
 
What is even harder to fit with the Vatican, and easy to fit with Jerusalem, is that the whore is a large import/export city dealing with the Kings, merchants and sailors of the earth.
 
 
 
Considering it's proximity on the Mediterranean, it's vast wealth and the specific products associated with this area, Jerusalem is the only fit of John's time.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,
 
“So shall Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and shall be found no more;22 and the sound of harpers and minstrels, of flute players and trumpeters, shall be heard in thee no more;and a craftsman of any craft shall be found in thee no more;and the sound of the millstone shall be heard in thee no more;23 and the light of a lamp shall shine in thee no more; and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall be heard in thee no more;for thy merchants were the great men of the earth, and all nations were deceived by thy sorcery.24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.”
 
 
 
I alluded to this earlier. Though anti-catholics can falsely claim that the Roman Catholic church has the blood of saints inside her, even they cannot argue that it can be said the Catholic church is guilty of the blood of the prophets nor of the blood of all who have been slain upon the earth, up to at least the time of John. Remember, anticatholics claim the Roman Catholic church did not even exist at that point.
 
 
 
So, what city can be held to account for the blood of the prophets? What city can be held to account for all those slain on earth? I will let Jesus answer for you in His own words.
 
 
 
Luke 13
 
33 Nevertheless I must walk to day and to morrow, and the day following, because it cannot be that a prophet perish, out of Jerusalem. 34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children as the bird doth her brood under her wings, and thou wouldest not? 35 Behold your house shall be left to you desolate. And I say to you, that you shall not see me till the time come, when you shall say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
 
Matthew 23
 
31 Wherefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of them that killed the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, generation of vipers, how will you flee from the judgment of hell? 34 Therefore behold I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you will put to death and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:
 
Verse 35 exactly parallels Revelation 18:24 and proves that all of this occurs to Jerusalem in 70 AD
 
35 That upon you may come all the just blood that hath been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even unto the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom you killed between the temple and the altar. 36 Amen I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.
